First of all, I used to have a shitty trigger or relationship with the word “diet”. I didn’t like it! I didn’t like the sound of it. I didn’t like that it reminded me of being chubby as younger girl. I didn’t like that it often correlates to fat people or crazy skinny people. I didn’t like that it sounded restrictive or controlling or like a drag. Even as someone in the health & fitness world for years, it bothered me.
As crazy as that is – I can’t be the only one who felt like that though. And I sure as hell am not the only one who’s inner fat girl cringes at the word diet or the thought of no donuts or whipped cream or Alfredo sauce. Riiiightt????
Yet now, in my grown folk brain and world, I do my best to hear diet as the “food that you eat” and “how you fuel your body”. That’s it!
For me, diet is: the foods you eat, the way you eat them, the way you prep them, the type of groceries you buy, the restaurants you go to, the liquids in your glass, and even the supplements and vitamins you ingest daily.
Some memes out there also call your diet the things you watch, listen to, read, think and absorb, in addition to the food you eat. And honestly – I can’t say that I can argue the logic, either!
But here, we’re gonna talk mostly about food and eating and cooking and baking and drinking.
We’ll go over habits that can lead to success and different types of diets that maybe you want to try on for a season, or maintain for a lifetime? We’ll talk about what “healthy” really means, and how to feel and look good/better overall.

This isn’t a destination. It’s a legit journey! We’re talking about a body – and if you’re new to planet Earth, you’ll understand that they’re constantly changing and evolving and recreating. Sometimes you feel like you’re moving one step forward, just to take two steps back. Sometimes your body feels amazing, sometimes it aches and is crazy bloated. Sometimes it feels like everything is easy, other times it’s all a drag. It’s complex shit, and that’s why there’s no one size fits all diet for every body. No rules that apply to every person just the same.
Recently, I’ve done my fair share of very strict diets, elimination diets and anti-inflammatory diets while I worked on my health, but it’s really the first time ever for me. I had honestly never done any type of crazy strict diet EVER, prior to age 38. I’d done some cleanses before, yet never anything that lasted weeks or months and required 100% adherence.
Guess what though? I survived! And I’m hear to tell you all about it and fill you in on the things I’ve done and learned, lived and loved.
For me personally, it’s not about perfection, obsessing over every calorie, weighing your food or being “that person” when you’re eating out with the crew.
It’s about living and enjoying and expressing and being…healthy-ish!
