Here are some tips to survive a cleaner and healthier diet to help your gut heal and your body regulate itself a bit.
I know it seems like adopting a diet or cleaner way of eating and living may be hard, but that’s just a story you’re telling yourself! There’s nothing hard or easy about it, it’s just new and different. It’s not found at the golden arches, and nobody’s really doing it your way at the drive-thru window, yet it is possible and can be easy and fun! And like anything else you never knew until you knew – you will get used to it! It will get easier. You will survive, you will even thrive!
Whether this is you taking a shot at a New Year’s Resolution, or getting ready for a wedding or summer or family reunion, it’s worth the read! And sometimes, we’re just sick of feeling sick, or sick of feeling like shit, so we seek help and support and guidance to do what we’ve never done before. And the good news is, I’m here for you!
Let me break this anti-inflammatory thing down for you in two ways. The first way is in terms of food choices and what you’re going to do to succeed:
- Swap breads for fitting substitutes, or ditch it all together! Think sandwiches in lettuce wraps, open face burgers, Siete brand wraps and chips!
- Ditch the shitty oils! Switch vegetable, canola or corn oil out for olive, avocado, coconut oils!
- Find healthy alternatives for sauces and condiments: load them up if it helps!
- Swap out cauliflower rice for rice: use it in fried rice, stuffed cabbage, as a side, etc.
- Find alternative pastas: Banza (chick peas), sweet potato noodles, lentil, black bean
- Use white or purple sweet potatoes versus white potatoes
- Make sweets with pure maple syrup and honey and coconut sugar. Once you avoid sugar for a bit, fruit will sustain. Make fruit your dessert!!!!
- If your body handles dairy well, and you want to be more keto: use chaffles and bread alternatives! So easy!
- Find alternatives to your favorite items (dairy sauce, pasta replacement, snack, etc). You can use this list for help on brands and compliant products.
- Stop drinking f’ing calories!!!! If you absolutely must, opt for a small amount of hard liquor.
- Start your day with a glass of water and lemon!
- Find fun in making new recipes! Be open to swapping out better ingredients and leveling up your life!
Now for more mindful tips on how to survive this healthier life, which are honestly just as important:
- Cut the drama acting like it’s so hard to eat a different and cleaner way! The “harder” you act like it is…the harder it will be! No need for dramatics. We’re bettering ourselves here, not lessening ourselves.
- Don’t be concerned with calories and quantities at first, aside from nuts, just eat when you’re hungry.
- Slow down when eating and be a bit more mindful about it, you’ll naturally eat less and be satisfied earlier. Learn to put your folk down between bites. Take small sips of water every few bites. B-R-E-A-T-H-E.
- Buy organic foods and focus on high quality foods/ingredients! I’m the biggest organic fan you’ll ever find anyways, yet you’ll notice a major difference in your body when you ditch all the bull shit and focus on quality.
- Go meatless a day or two a week – opt for fish or just stick with beans or lentils on these days.
- Try fasting as a means to let your body and gut heal and rest! There’s no need to make intermittent fasting a forever plan, yet you can try it for a few days of the week, or an entire month or two. Giving your body less to digest at night while you sleep gives it more time to heal and repair everything else!
- Supplement yourself well.
And that’s it, folks! I feel like you can read a ton of “diet” articles or weight loss and fat loss articles that make a healthier lifestyle seem very complex and serious and dramatic and freaking HARD! They most often seem restrictive, or unrealistic and require 100% adherence…and we all know that shit never works! When they’re all written by people with 6-packs and perfect bodies, that doesn’t help either! So here ya go! This is a success tip article for all you lovely common folk trying to be healthy-ish!
